Kara and Tyler came to me through one of my other destination wedding couples, Toni and Grant. Grant and Tyler are cousins, and the two couples actually got married just a few months apart. It was fun to work with their mutual family members for both events. Both chose adults only resorts in the Playa Mujeres area of the Cancun region. For their big day, Kara & Tyler selected Secrets Playa Mujeres for their destination wedding.

Planning a Destination Wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres

Like many couples planning a destination wedding in Mexico, Kara and Tyler were navigating the process without having seen the resort spaces in person. Kara shared that the hardest part was simply trusting the process.

“We were most nervous about trusting the process! It is hard to envision how things will go when we had not yet seen the resort and the spaces that would host us on our big day.”

We started out selecting venues at the adjacent Dreams Playa Mujeres, as originally kids would be in attendance. However, when guests’ reservations started rolling in, more booked at Secrets, the adults only property, we shifted everything over. We made the process seamless, removing the Dreams rooms options, and communicating with the resort wedding team to make the changes.

Once the logistics were nailed down, the couple got to the fun part, getting to select all the details that would bring their wedding vision to life.

“The best part was getting to pick everything out and make the plans which created so much excitement leading up to the big day.”

To keep things manageable, we broke the planning process into small weekly tasks so it never felt overwhelming. As Kara shared in her review,

Removing the Stress of Resort Communication

One of the biggest benefits of working with a destination wedding planner is having someone manage communication with the resort. Anyone who has planned a destination wedding knows that coordinating with resort teams can sometimes feel like a full-time job!

Kara knew early on that this was something she didn’t want to manage herself.

“I knew I did not want to mess with bugging the resort when they weren’t replying… it was so nice to have Dana handle that and make the planning process easy.”

By taking that off their plate, Kara and Tyler were able to focus on the fun parts of planning, the celebration, their guests, and the experience they were creating.

The Wedding Day: Relaxed, Beautiful, and So Much Fun

When the big day finally arrived at Secrets Playa Mujeres, everything came together beautifully. The ceremony embraced the natural beauty of the destination, allowing the surroundings of Mexico’s coastline to set the tone for the celebration. They opted for a quick ceremony on the beach, and headed straight into champagne cheers, mariachi music, and a laidback cocktail hour.

One of the things that I loved about Kara & Tyler is they made it a point to get photos with every single guest! They didn’t fret over the timeline. They didn’t care that it would take up time. Each and every person’s presence was a gift to them, and they wanted to honor that with the memory captured in film!

But if you ask Kara what her favorite part of the day was, the answer is simple.

The reception.

“The reception was just so good. When the ‘to dos’ were over and it was time to let loose and celebrate it was so so fun.”

And from the photos, it absolutely looks like the party was unforgettable!

One of the Best Parts of a Destination Wedding

One of the things Kara loved most about their wedding trip wasn’t even the wedding day itself. It was watching their worlds come together throughout the week.

“It was so fun walking around the resort and seeing our college friends eating lunch with my aunt and uncle… getting to see everyone interact was so awesome.”

That’s one of the most magical parts of a destination wedding! It turns a single-day event into an entire experience where your favorite people spend time together in ways they might never have otherwise.
