Their Dreams Bahia Mita destination wedding almost came with a plot twist nobody saw coming. But more on that in a minute… First, let’s talk about how a couple who wanted their wedding day to feel like them, not like a magazine spread, ended up with exactly that on a terrace overlooking the Pacific.
Hi, I’m Dana, the planner behind DWD Travel & Destination Weddings. I work with couples planning destination weddings at all-inclusive resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean, and Madison and Reid are the kind of couple I hope every bride and groom gets to be. Grounded, kind, deeply rooted in their faith, and completely unbothered by the small stuff. That combination made the whole planning process feel easy, and it made their wedding day feel like exactly what they set out to create!
Designing Rooted in Romance for Their Dreams Bahia Mita Destination Wedding
Madison sent over Pinterest boards full of relaxed, love-filled, joyful images, and paired them with words like intentional and stress-free. That gave us the whole design in one sentence. We named the vibe Rooted in Romance, a palette of terracotta, sunset orange, sage, and blush layered over natural wood and soft candlelight. Nothing overdone, nothing stiff, just warm textures and open, organic florals that looked like they were freshly gathered rather than staged.
The ceremony took place on the Presidential Suite Terrace, with floral arrangements framing the couple instead of a traditional arch, so the ocean stayed the star of the show right alongside them. Cocktail hour moved to the Wooden Deck above the beach, with a stunning sunset setting the tone before the reception carried the same wood tones and repurposed ceremony florals into the night under string lights.
Want to see if a resort like Dreams Bahia Mita fits your own vision? Let’s hop on a call and talk it through.
What the Bride Was Most Nervous About
Every couple has a version of this fear, and Madison named hers honestly in her exit survey.
“Leading up to the wedding, I was most nervous about the wedding not feeling like us, things not being what I wanted, people not having fun, and it not moving smoothly.”
That’s exactly why the planning process matters as much as the wedding day itself. Madison described that process in her own words.
“The planning process for our destination wedding was easy, smooth, timely, seamless, and with great communication, all thanks to Dana.”
Because their guest list included plenty of adults, Madison and Reid’s wedding party and family were able to book rooms at the adjoining Secrets Bahia Mita as well, giving the adults only crowd their own quiet corner of the resort while everyone still gathered together for the celebration itself.

Madison rated the resort a 9 out of 10, calling the food amazing and the property spotless and surprisingly calm given its size, though she noted it can feel like a lot to navigate for guests who don’t travel often. The wedding itself, she said, was a perfect 10, and Nicte and the entire in-house vendor team pulled off every detail Madison had pictured, and then some.
The Wedding Day Nobody Wanted to End
Here’s the plot twist! The day of the wedding, the Presidential Suite actually flooded. The resort team handled it so quietly and so completely that it never touched their experience. In fact, she didn’t even know it had happened until the day after the wedding! That’s the entire point of choosing a resort with a team that knows what they’re doing, and of having someone in your corner managing the communication so nothing lands on the couple’s plate.
The day itself came together exactly the way Madison & Reid had hoped. She described the ceremony as God-centered, with the speeches and the dancing standing out as favorite moments, along with the last dance she and Reid shared alone once the party had wound down. If she could change one thing, it would be spending a little more time choreographing that first dance instead of improvising it in the moment. A small, sweet regret from a day she called perfect in every other way.
“We didn’t have to lift a finger for anything.”
That sentence shows up in nearly everything Madison sent over after the wedding, and it’s the whole reason destination wedding planning exists.

Why Madison and Reid Would Choose a Destination Wedding Again
Madison’s advice for any newly engaged couple weighing a destination wedding was direct.
“Do it... It feels more intimate, and a destination wedding naturally allows you to invite exactly who you want without the guilt of creating a massive guest list.”
She also pointed to something couples rarely think about ahead of time, the pressure that comes with a traditional wedding day spent making the rounds and talking to every single guest.
“A destination wedding also takes away the pressure of feeling like you need to spend your entire wedding day making rounds and talking to every guest. You’ve already spent days together creating memories, so when the wedding day arrives, you can simply enjoy yourself, be present, and soak in every moment.”
Her favorite part of the whole trip, outside the wedding day itself, was spending intentional time with family and friends and taking a sunset cruise the day after the ceremony. That’s the part people forget to plan for and end up loving the most.
