Some couples come to me with a clear vision, and others come looking for guidance. But Stephanie & Tyler arrived with both. They knew what they wanted, an adults-only destination wedding in Mexico that honored Stephanie’s Mexican heritage while giving their guests an incredible experience. What they didn’t know was how to make it all work—logistically, financially, and without the overwhelm. That’s where I came in. We didn’t start out planning a Secrets Moxche destination wedding, but that’s certainly where we landed!

Hi! I’m Dana, the mastermind and destination wedding expert behind DWD Travel & Destination Weddings. I helped Stephanie & Tyler bring their celebration to life. We shifted from one resort to another (managing to keep the same wedding date, I might add!), nailed down the room block contract & guests’ travel, worked on the design and wedding details, and so much more. Together, we pulled off a destination wedding that honored their vision, wowed their guests, and came together exactly as it was meant to be.

From Dreaming of Isla Mujeres to Riviera Maya Reality

At first, Stephanie had her heart set on Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets. While on vacation, they’d even placed a deposit on a date during a visit. But after considering the travel logistics and price point for guests, we made a strategic pivot. The wedding would still take place in Mexico, Stephanie’s birthplace, but on the mainland at the stunning Secrets Moxché. This shift allowed us to deliver the luxury and ambiance they wanted, while creating a more seamless (and price-conscious) experience for guests flying in from Dallas, St. Louis, Alabama, Ohio, and beyond.

It delivered the elevated, elegant vibe Stephanie and Tyler were after—perfectly suited for their high paced careers working for professional sports teams. A Wedding Full of Heritage, Heart, and Style

When thinking of the design, Stephanie wanted to incorporate elements of her Mexican heritage in an intentional and stylish way. We designed a welcome taco party under papel picado with fire dancers to wow the guests on the opening night, a wedding color palette inspired by Mexican Talavera pottery, and a brought in a live mariachi band for cocktail hour—just a few of the details that made the weekend feel personal, joyful, and deeply connected to her roots.

They embraced a design that blended classic elegance with local flair. It wasn’t just bright tropical colors—they weren’t afraid to mix rich tones and textural florals against the lush green backdrop of Playa del Carmen. The result? A one-of-a-kind event that felt both elevated and down-to-earth—an event that was so perfectly them.

Budgeting, Guests, and Graceful Flexibility

When they first reached out, Stephanie & Tyler had set a wedding budget—but as planning progressed and possibilities unfolded, that number doubled. And still, they never lost sight of what mattered most—marrying each other and showering their guests with a wonderful time! Up until the last minute, we were collaborating on what details would make a difference, and what could go. Let’s just say, not much was cut. But, unfortunately, we couldn’t make a beer burrow happen. Whomp, whomp. We encountered a few other minuscule bumps in the road, like last minute guest cancellations. I’ll never forget Stephanie’s response when something didn’t go quite as planned:

“That’s just how the cookie crumbles.”

Their calm, grounded energy and trust in the process made this experience so enjoyable—for everyone involved. They truly were one of the most down-to-earth couples I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
