Some weddings stay with you forever—and Tajera & Jordan’s destination wedding at Dreams Playa Mujeres is one of those I’ll never forget.
Hi! I’m Dana, your destination wedding expert with DWD Travel & Destination Weddings, and I’m here to share one of our real weddings at Dreams Playa Mujeres in Cancun, Mexico. I helped the couple nail down the resort, room block contract, wedding details, and so much more!

Navigating Budgets, Logistics, and Love Across Continents
When they first came to me, they knew they wanted a wedding in Mexico, but they weren’t quite sure where. Tajera, originally from Jamaica, didn’t want to get married there, not because it wasn’t beautiful, but because she didn’t want the large, overwhelming guest list that would inevitably come with a hometown celebration. And because of visa logistics, getting married in the States wasn’t an option either. They knew one thing for certain: they wanted to say “I do” surrounded by the people they love most.
At first, we faced some tough conversations—destination wedding planning can feel daunting! Budget discussions, choosing the right resort, and managing expectations are never easy, especially when planning from different continents. (Jordan plays professional basketball in Germany while Tajera was planning from Missouri!) There were nerves, doubts, and lots of questions. But after a few honest chats, the energy shifted. They leaned in, trusted the process, and from there, it was smooth sailing.
Ultimately, they chose Dreams Playa Mujeres, and it ended up being the perfect match for them. The over-the-water ceremony platform, romantic tropical vibe, and spacious setting created the ideal backdrop for an unforgettable day. Yes, the florals and extras added more to the budget than we originally anticipated—but I’ll never forget Jordan saying on one of our planning calls:
“I just want Tajera to have what she wants.”
Their wedding was more than just beautiful. It was emotional, intentional, and deeply special. Tajera and Jordan hadn’t seen each other in months before arriving in Mexico—she flew in from the U.S., and he from Germany. That reunion alone was a moment. Add in their knockout style (seriously, just wait until you see the photos), the love of their family and friends, and a heartfelt ceremony, and you have something truly magical.
Before leaving Mexico, Jordan told me he was so glad they didn’t cut corners.
“It was a perfect wedding,” he said. Speaking on the glass platform, “It was definitely the perfect choice!”
And truly, so am I. Tajera & Jordan are one of those couples that remind me why I do what I do. Their love, their trust, their joy—it was such a gift to be part of their day.
Tajera & Jordan’s Real Talk about their Dreams Playa Mujeres Destination Wedding: A Q&A with the Couple
Now that you’ve seen the story from my perspective, here’s a closer look at the day through Tajera and Jordan’s eyes.
What was your favorite part of the destination wedding planning process, before hopping on the plane?
Our favorite parts actually were related. Her [Tajera] favorite part was the process of choosing her ceremony setup, the overwater platform, and decor. My [Jordan] favorite part was experiencing the process from a distance and seeing her go through all her emotions while telling me what she liked and disliked. Her getting all happy and focused on her dream wedding was a great memory of mine especially since we were long distance leading up to the wedding. Also the calls were nice at times because they put me in a good mood when we are long distance which is heard and had us thinking about the wedding together.
What were you most nervous about leading up to the wedding?
She was most nervous about the communication coming from the hotel that didn’t really show up until very close to wedding trip, and most was done on site. I was most nervous about how everything would look and the weather. We realized why the communication was the way it was when we showed up. They have lots of weddings going on, and they lock in on your wedding from start to finish when yours gets closer.
In other words, y’all, it will all come together! Trust me! Okay, back to T&J…
If you could tell a newly engaged couple one thing about having a destination wedding, what would it be?
We would say to get a travel agent / wedding planner. Because it was a lot going on for us, and couldn’t imagine having to do all the things Dana did too. It would be impossible. We would also say join Facebook groups from destination wedding goers. It can be helpful in a lot of ways to be in a big group of people who just had a destination wedding recently or planning to.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
We both agreed the first look was the best. The vows were crazy too. The whole time I was standing over the water, it felt like a movie and time just flew. Except for while I was standing at the altar waiting for her…
What was your favorite part of the whole trip, aside from the wedding day?
Bringing both our families together and seeing people show up who we haven’t seen for a while. It meant a lot. Everyone got along great. With us being long distance, it was also great to be together again at a beautiful resort.
What would Tajera & Jordan do differently for their destination wedding?
Having a picture list of poses and props, and things to check so you look right. Have some in your wedding party be responsible or just ask people for fit checks or dress checks to make sure things don’t go wrong and show up in a lot of pictures.
We would have made our reception longer, and tried to make a more specific / detailed music playlist for the reception / cocktail hour.
Working with DWD for Your Destination Wedding in Mexico
What was one part of your wedding planning that you knew you couldn’t (or didn’t want to) do alone? How did DWD help with that?
The travel stuff, communicating with everyone, and the website are the first things that come to mind that we are thankful she took care of. As well as other stuff we mentioned in the answer above.
What would you say to a couple who has decided on a destination wedding? Why should they choose DWD?
Not only is she [Dana/DWD] a travel agent but also a wedding planner. She really was a good person to talk to when we had our meetings and check ins which was great to have in our long distance situation. The website was amazing, and she communicated with our guests really well. She is also very detailed in emails and easy to talk to about problems or questions that come up with fast response times.
It was truly so wonderful working with Tajera & Jordan, and reliving their planning & wedding was such a treat. These two are the real deal, and I wish them all the love to last a lifetime!
