The Journey that Brought their Wedding to Mexico
Like I mentioned, Breanna, with Mitchell’s blessing for whatever she dreamed of, was to marry in the lush country of St. Lucia. It is a beautiful Southern Caribbean Island that was formed by volcanoes, and known as “The Hawaii of the Caribbean.” It is known for its lush green landscapes, iconic Piton mountains, and laidback atmosphere. St. Lucia is home to some of the most beautiful resorts in the world that leave the pretension behind.
The island, along with many of its resorts, feel secluded and exotic, a far cry from the bustling area of Cancun, Mexico. We decided on a stunning resort that had a unique look with a beach only accessible by boat—see what I mean, secluded and exotic. But, even with my killer negotiation skills, the resort’s owner’s just didn’t want to budge in terms of rates for the guests. Knowing there were so many other great options out there that fit the bill, Breanna and Mitchell decided to trust my recommendations, and look elsewhere.
Why They Chose the Fives Beach Hotel
After going back to the drawing board, Breanna decided to visit The Fives Beach Hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I knew it was exactly what she was looking for with the lush, jungle vibes, kid friendly for her guests, as well as budget conscious for the resort stay. It turns out I was right, because she locked in the wedding date right then and there! I got to work on the room contract for the guests, and we were good to go. Or so we thought!
When I say Breanna & Mitchell have a unique story, I truly mean they have a unique story! In the process of all of this, Mitchell had a health scare, and y’all, he died! Praise God he was brought back to us, and life carried on. I really thought the couple would decide against a destination wedding at this point, but they surprised me, and things went on as planned. Again, or so we thought! Breanna is a selfless woman who works with kiddos in need and she has a soft spot for kiddos. These two decided to become foster parents, and by the time the wedding came around they had adopted THREE kiddos! Talk about SO much love here! With that, The Fives Beach with their 2 & 3 bedroom options ended up being a better fit than we could have dreamed!
The Celebration
I’m in my feels today as I share about Breanna & Mitchell, and looking at their photos while recalling what all they went through to get through this day has the tears flowing! You can truly see the love and joy in their photos, and I feel so honored to have played a part in their big day. For their celebration, they selected the Sky Wedding venue, which overlooks the ocean for a perfect backdrop and ocean breeze. To let the sky and ocean shine, they opted for an all white look with champagne for the bridal party and eucalyptus and candles for centerpieces. Bouquets and boutonnieres were white roses and eucalyptus leaves tied with jute and champagne ribbons. It was a simplistic and beautiful look!
Their reception featured a show-stopping all white dance floor surrounded by white tables & linens and chairs. The string lights above added to the romance, creating the vibe for a magical night! To treat their guests, they surprised them with “Hora Loca” or crazy hour featuring dancers, neon lights, and water drums to end the night.
What a journey it was to get to this day! I couldn’t be more proud of how it all turned out, and am so excited for The Matthews future!
An Interview with a Couple Who Celebrated their Destination Wedding at The Fives Beach Hotel
What were the biggest worries that you were experiencing before finding DWD?
Location!!
Think back to when we first met, why did you choose to work with DWD?
Great energy! Love for traveling.
What was your favorite part of the destination wedding planning process (prior to traveling)?
Picking a location
If you could tell a newly engaged couple one thing about having a destination wedding, what would it be?
DO IT!!! I am so happy we went with a destination wedding!
What was your favorite part your wedding day?
Stress free!! After stepping on the resort there was nothing I had to worry about.
What would you do differently about the wedding day? Was there anything you wished you included or something you could’ve lived without?
I would have extended my photographer and videographer time. The resort was wonderful but we felt rushed to get all of our photos and video done.
What was one part of your wedding planning that you knew you couldn’t (or didn’t want to) do alone? How did DWD help with that?
I didn’t want to do any of it. Lol, when I first started planning I did not have kids when we left for the wedding we had 3 kids, and when we came home we had eight. I did not want to plan or worry about anything wedding. I am grateful that DWD handled all of the behind-the-scenes so that I did not have to worry about it.
