Graceland Pt. 1

Hey there friends! I’m so excited you’re here today. Today’s and the next post are what I’ve been waiting for. I’m so excited to finally share my trip to Graceland with you! Because it is so massive, has so many important parts, and so many great photos to share, I decided to break it up into two parts. Today, I’ll share part 1 which will consist of the Elvis Presley’s Memphis–the entertainment & exhibit portion of what is for the most part known as Graceland.

Graceland

Essentially exploring Elvis’ compound is broken up into two parts. The Graceland Mansion itself is located on one side of Elvis Presley Boulevard, and the exhibits (costumes, cars, planes, etc.) are located across the street. When I visited, a multi-million dollar renovation had just taken place, and the grand re-opening was just a couple of weeks prior. So it was exciting to see the exhibits in a fresh, new setting. Though our tour began with the mansion, I wanted to save the best for last. 😉 So below, you’ll see photos and tidbits about the exhibits portion.

Apart of what is referred to as Elvis Presley’s Memphis are endless exhibits about Elvis’ career and personal life. We enjoyed seeing gold records, awards, his instruments, and movie posters.

A highlight of the tour is browsing Elvis’ many stage costumes. The exhibits boasted his Army uniform, movie costumes, and many of his famous jumpsuits. It was incredible to see these up close. The bead work on his costumes are stunning!

Along with costumes and cars, the exhibits feature some of his personal archives. Family photographs, home decor, his bibles, and more are on display to see. You could spend hours browsing all of the artifacts, and it all isn’t even on display! I anticipate that the items on display will change from time to time.

Along with exhibits, Elvis Presley’s Memphis features a couple of restaurants lovingly named after his parents, Gladys and Vernon. We decided to try out Gladys’ Diner, and it was delish! The grilled peanut butter & banana sandwich, which happened to be Elvis’ favorite, was amazing!

Graceland

Along with all of the bits & baubles are some of Elvis’ greatest passions, motor vehicles! On display are many, many of the King’s cars, motorcycles, play toys like go carts and golf carts, and even a John Deere tractor! On top of that, you can also tour two of Elvis’ planes, The Lisa Marie & The Hound Dog II. I quite enjoyed some of the quotes Elvis said in regards to his cars.

As you can see, there is so much to see at Graceland, and we haven’t even gotten to the mansion itself yet! Check back in a day or two for the crème de la crème of Graceland, the mansion!
