Hey y’all! Can you believe we are already into the 3rd month of 2018? It has been quite the exciting year for us already, obviously, and, though I’m looking forward to more adventures & excitement this year, I’d also like it to slow down a bit. Sometimes it’s hard to soak it all in when time is passing at lightning speed!
Anyhow, I’m back today to share more from our New York City, which seems like it was yesterday, but was actually in December 2016! See, that pesky time thing. I never intended to take so long to put together this full guide, but 2017 was a tough, busy year! But I digress. Today is all about the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge!

During my first visit to New York City in 2013, we didn’t spend time to see the Brooklyn Bridge, so I was sure to make it a point to stop by this time. We made our visit on a Saturday morning. It was a busy time to visit, and I imagine a weekday would make for less hustle & bustle. But it was beautiful nonetheless and not as busy as I thought it would be.

We began our journey onto the bridge at South Street Seaport, which I’ll talk more about later, then making our way up and around to the bridge promenade. Seeing beneath the beginnings of the bridge was quite neat as we walked along Dover Street and eventually Frankfort Street. We were able to see the footings, arches, and even a statue of Benjamin Franklin, located opposite City Hall Park.

We eventually made our way up to the bridge, and began our walk across. I enjoyed reading more about the bridge, noticing the details like greased parts that allow for movement and suspension, and how the bridge accommodates both foot and vehicle traffic. The wires and suspension rods are just as artful as the stone columns, and the picturesque skyline on either side of the river was beautiful. 

Though we did not walk the entire way across, we enjoyed quite the stroll across. Along with the beauty of the bridge, we loved seeing trinket and art vendors and people watching. That is something that is always favorable to me, people watching. I always wonder where people are headed, especially in New York City. Are they tourists? Are they workers coming in from the next borough or city? Or are they a NYC family out for a day of exploring or heading to the next ballet class? So many possibilities. Do you wonder the same, or is that just me?

I am so glad we took the time to explore the bridge. It is truly a modern marvel! And incredible to think it was made so many years ago, and is still fully functional. I hope you enjoy my account of our exploring the Brooklyn Bridge. Wishing you a great weekend!
